Perhaps the main attraction in Falkland is the Palace which is now maintained and managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Built between 1450 and 1541, it is a very impressive Renaissance building which was a country residence of the Stuart monarchs for over 200 years.

There has been little change in Falkland over the years and the scene now is essentially the same as it was when this scene was painted one summer's evening in 1957
