Cellardykes is a hidden treasure screened from the main road by parts of Anstruther. The harbour is one of the best preserved old fishing ports in Scotland and the scene in this ink sketch remains the same as it was in 1975.

Cellardykes was called Nether Kilrenny until the 1500s and the harbour is still sometimes called Skinfast Haven. The name Cellardykes is from "Sil'erdykes" after the shine of herring scale on nets hung over dykes (walls) to dry. The traditional washing line poles are still in use today
