The artist recorded many scenes of Kirkcaldy which have long since disappeared. The gasworks which dominated the skyline between the Esplanade and Links Street was removed in the 1960s when gas statrted to be supplied from new plant at Kinglassie.
This view dates from 1952 and was painted from a courtyard behind houses in Burleigh Street which have also long disappeared
