The artist, after service in the RAF and a short spell teaching in Banff joined the staff of Kirkcaldy High School in late 1947.
Prefabs were the (successful) answer to housing shortages caused by bombing and general decay and to provide a fresh start for returning servicemen and their families.
Kirkcaldy had prefabs and the one occupied by the artist's family - 12 Earn Road - was situated between Gallatown Park and Overton Road. This picture was painted from the front garden of that house in September 1948. These particular prefabs were removed in the mid-1960s and replaced with modern low-rise flats
