This is unusual insofar as it is an experiment in what is effectively grayscale - well away from the artist's usual bold colour.
Balbirnie House, now a very highly-regarded small luxury hotel, was completed in 1777 for the Balfours who were involved in both agriculture and coal-mining. Surrounded by an extensive and superb estate and country park it is an early Scottish example of Grecian architecture
