This painting of the unique fishing village of Crovie (10 miles east of Banff) dates from April 1950, well before the disastrous gales of 30th January 1953 which changed the shoreline and demolished a number of the houses. The house with the red letter box was destroyed that day and all that remains is about three feet of the wall although the old letter box structure is still recognisable.

Crovie concentrates more on the holiday accommodation business nowadays
